Whether you are undergoing a restoration placement or receiving dental implants, we want to make sure your experience in our office is comfortable and relaxing. To ensure this, we offer sedation dentistry for patients of all ages. In today’s blog, your Celina, TX, dentist talks about providing comfortable treatment with dental sedation!
When Patients Need Calming Solutions
At what point do we recommend a calming solution for our patients? This could be helpful for people undergoing more extensive treatments, such as tooth extraction or even dental implant placement. We could offer calming medications if a patient has special needs or high anxiety levels that could make receiving even minor procedures a difficult process. We want to provide a positive and comfortable treatment experience, so you and your family always look forward to your next appointment!
Selecting Which is Right for You
Our team offers two very different options to help you enter a deep state of calm, but which is right for you? Before we recommend one, we will look at a number of different factors. For example, we will assess the presence of special needs and your anxiety levels. We also want to know what medications you are currently taking. Our team will also factor in your age, weight, and medical history. With this information, as well as the treatment you are undergoing, we can decide which option is best for keeping you calm and relaxed.
Nitrous Oxide and Oral Sedation
Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is administered through a mask over your nose. You breathe in the gas and enter a deep state of calm and relaxation, with little to no memory of the procedure at all. You stay conscious however, and can respond to the dentist as needed. The effects can be adjusted during treatment and the effects wear off almost right away once your procedure ends. You could drive yourself home or even return to work or school!
With oral conscious sedation, you will take a pill or liquid prior to the procedure and enter a deeper state of calm, staying conscious but having no memory of the procedure. We may suggest avoiding food and drink for a few hours before the treatment begins, and suggest wearing loose and comfortable clothing. The effects take time to wear off once the procedure ends, so you need to have a friend or family member on hand to take you home afterward. If you have any questions, then contact our team today!
