Replacing Missing Teeth With Dental Bridges

celina dental bridge

Do you have a gap in your smile? This open space, whether caused by injury or disease, could lead to trouble with your appearance and your oral health. We can help by replacing your lost teeth! In today’s blog, your team at Celina Family Dentistry talks about addressing missing teeth with a dental bridge.

The Onset of Tooth Loss

What causes our smiles to lose natural teeth? For some, this could be due to an unfortunate injury or accident, one we can help address with emergency dentistry and a dental prosthetic. This could also be due to poor oral health, such as a cavity, infection, or gum disease, which can lead to missing teeth. In addition to replacing what has been lost, we can treat and manage these underlying factors to protect your remaining natural teeth. Our team wants to help ensure the stability of your remaining natural teeth, and the longevity of your new dental prosthetic.

Designing Your New Teeth

For people with minor tooth loss, we can help with the placement of a dental bridge. The prosthetic is one that can address a single lost tooth to replace as many as three in a row. We start by numbing the abutment teeth on each side of the gap and then removing structure from them, which will accommodate the crown portions of your new prosthetic. We then take images and impressions of the open space and the abutment teeth, creating a 3D impression that allows us to design your dental bridge.

Your prosthetic will contain new teeth with crowns attached to each end. Made from ceramic, these will be color-matched to blend with your smile!

Placing Your Dental Bridge

When your dental bridge is ready, we will attach the crown portions to the abutment teeth to support new ones firmly in place. Once in place, this is fixed and does not need to be removed for cleaning or soaking like removable dentures, and instead will remain attached for 10 to 15 years on average before a replacement is needed. In the meantime, this will look natural and be able to handle daily bite forces and pressures with ease.
