Sedation Dentistry Provides A Comfortable Experience

celina sedation

We always take time to ensure our patients experience a comfortable and positive time in the office. With dental sedation, we can help even our patients with anxiety and special needs enjoy their time in the office. In today’s blog, the team at Celina Family Dentistry talks about helping smiles with sedation dentistry.

The Need for Our Calming Treatments

When do we prescribe a calming medication for our patients? We could suggest sedation for those with dental anxiety, so they don’t have their fears stand between them and the healthy smile they deserve. This can also aid people with special needs that make undergoing treatment difficult, or for those receiving more extensive treatments, such as wisdom tooth extraction or even dental implant placement.

Choosing Which is Best for You

Our team can offer three different options to choose from, but how do we choose which one is right for you or your family member? We will look at a number of different factors, such as your age, weight, and overall medical history. We also assess your anxiety levels and any mediations you are currently taking. With this information, we can select which one is most appropriate for you!

Dental Sedation Options

The most common form we offer, and one that’s helpful for kids as well, is nitrous oxide. Also known as laughing gas, this is administered through a mask over the nose. You breathe in a gas and enter a deep state of calm and euphoria, able to respond to the dentist but with no memory of the process. We can adjust levels during treatment, and the effects wear off when the procedure does, you can even drive yourself home or return to work or school.

For a deeper state of calm, we could offer oral conscious sedation in a pill or liquid form prior to the procedure. You again enter a state of calm, but with no memory of the procedure at all. There will be some grogginess after, so you need someone on hand to take you home.

The deepest state of calm we offer is through IV, and a trained anesthesiologist will be on hand to monitor you throughout the process. Again, you will need someone to take you home afterward as the sedation takes time to wear off completely. If you have any questions about how we ensure a calm and comfortable experience in our office, or if you are ready to discuss your options, then contact our team today.
