When you have an uneven smile, you need orthodontics to improve the overall health, beauty, and function of your bite. Our team can provide this with a cosmetic approach using aligners instead of braces. In today’s blog, your Celina, TX, dentist talks about how we straighten smiles with the ClearCorrect™ system.
The Factors Behind Dental Misalignment (and the Complications)
Why do we end up with crooked, crowded, and overlapping teeth sometimes? This could be due to issues in childhood, such as thumb sucking, premature loss of baby teeth, or complications with the growth and development of the jaw and certain oral structures. In the teen and adult years, injury or tooth loss could also be responsible. The causes may vary, but regardless, misalignment is linked to a greater risk of tooth decay and gum disease, as the smile is more difficult to brush and floss. Misalignment could also mean stress on the jaw joints, which increases the risk of TMJ disorder and bruxism. You may also feel uncomfortable with the appearance of your smile! But we can help with our custom and clear aligners.
Crafting Custom Plastic Aligners
Each ClearCorrect™ aligner is custom-made for your smile. To begin, our team will carefully examine your smile to see if you need orthodontics and if so, we will take detailed digital images and impressions of your teeth. In a lab setting, experts will use these to design and craft your aligners from a strong, clear, and BPA-free plastic material. When your orthodontics are ready, you can start treatment!
The ClearCorrect™ System
With ClearCorrect™, you will wear a set of aligners for about 20 to 23 hours a day, depending on our recommendations. You wear each set for about two weeks. Afterward, you will move on to the next set in the series and continue this process for about a year. Some patients may need up to 18 months, depending on the severity of your misalignment. The orthodontics themselves are removable, so you don’t have to avoid certain foods and brushing and flossing will be much easier. They are easy to clean and store, and can travel with you too.
