We want to make sure your kids enjoy good oral health, and a bright smile that makes a great first impression. With children’s dentistry, we can offer preventive treatments to keep tooth decay at bay and save smiles. In today’s blog, your Celina, TX, dentist talks about helping little smiles with children’s dentistry.
Starting with a Checkup and Cleaning
Just like adults, kids need to have a checkup and cleaning visit about once every six months. During these visits, we will examine the smile with advanced digital imaging systems, so we can make a diagnosis with precision and accuracy. Our team will also talk to your child about their oral hygiene habits and the importance of caring for their smiles. If we uncover issues that need attention, such as tooth decay or gingivitis, we will create a treatment plan to address them.
In the same visit, we will take on plaque and tartar buildup with a dental cleaning. The cleaning procedure involves using an ultrasonic scaling device and a manual tool to gently and thoroughly break up and remove plaque and tartar, which helps fight tooth decay and gingivitis. We then polish the smile to make it more difficult for plaque and tartar to accumulate in between cleaning visits, and to also brighten the smile!
Fluoride and Dental Sealants
Our team is also proud to offer preventive visits to help avoid the onset of tooth decay. For example, as part of your child’s six-month visit, we can apply fluoride directly to the teeth in a varnish form. This helps strengthen the smile, even the weakened portions of the enamel, to help protect smiles from cavities. Some kids have trouble reaching the back teeth when they brush and floss. As a result, food and drink particles can become trapped between the molars to cause tooth decay. But our team can coat these teeth in an acrylic layer known as a dental sealant. The sealant means that nothing can be stuck on or between these teeth, so the cavity risk drops. These can even stay in place for up to ten years!
Dental Filling
If we do discover that a tooth has a cavity, we can offer relief in one visit. Our composite resin fillings are safe for all ages and can be shaded to blend with the tooth, so your child has a more lifelike tooth repair. The process takes one visit to complete, and offers a stronger and healthier smile!
