Botox® Treatment for Bruxism
Bruxism, bite misalignment, and other forms of bite concerns can sometimes lead to severe forms of pain and discomfort. For example, the tension from bruxism can cause your facial and jaw muscles to be chronically sore and feeling exhausted, which can cause discomfort throughout your oral and facial structures.
With a focus on helping patients receive quality care to alleviate their discomfort and improve their bite function, we can sometimes recommend treating bruxism and myofacial pain with Botox®. Though often associated with cosmetic facial improvements, the administration of Botox® can also help relieve the tension that leads to many myofacial conditions.

What is Botox®?
Botox® treatment is most often recognized as a cosmetic treatment designed to help smooth wrinkles in certain areas of the face to create a more youthful appearance. The same properties that help relieve tension in certain facial muscles also make the treatment viable to help alleviate tension in your oral structures.
How Botox® can help with facial pain
If you suffer from bruxism, TMJ disorder, or other sources of facial pain, the underlying factors of your condition may differ from other patients’. The first part of your treatment will be to diagnose these factors, as well as any that may be contributing to chronic myofacial pain. When appropriate, the use of a custom-designed appliance may help alleviate chronic bruxism, jaw pain, and more.
In addition to an appliance, or as part of a more comprehensive treatment plan, we may recommend using Botox® to help the jaw and facial muscles involved in your bite function relax. This can help reduce the chronic teeth-grinding of bruxism and the occurrence of painful symptoms throughout your oral and facial structures.
